The Bianconeri travel to the Santiago Bernabeu with a 2-1 advantage
from the first leg and Del Piero believes they have what it takes to
succeed.
“Once you get into the semi-finals, anything can happen,” he told AS.
“The turning point was the victory against Olympiacos, and then in Dortmund. Now the players play with more freedom, probably.
“I’d say to the players tonight that they have the opportunity to add another page to the great history of Juventus.
“Great players have made the difference on the big nights and on the
greatest stages. And I think that the Bernabeu is one of them.”
The 40-year-old was part of the Juventus team that last lifted the
Champions League in 1996 and pointed to Paul Pogba and Andrea Pirlo as
fundamental parts of the current side.
“That night in 1996 I felt I was 195 cm tall, not 174cm. In football
you can win, have fun and entertain. That’s what happened on that night
and it was special,” he said.
“Pogba is the player of the future because of his technical quality and
physical strength. He’s like a player from the NBA – modern and
destined to become the number one in the world.
“Pirlo is a leader on and off the pitch, a player of exquisite intelligence. In short, he makes all the difference.”
