Barcelona vice-President Jordi Cardoner has accused the Spanish
authorities of using the Neymar tax case as a political weapon against
Catalonia.
The Spanish National Court in Madrid confirmed on Wednesday it had
accepted the state prosecutor’s request to proceed with the trial
against the club, their former President Sandro Rosell and incumbent
Josep Maria Bartomeu.
The announcement came just a day after Barca reached the Champions
League final, leaving the club’s vice-President of social affairs
(pictured right) to question whether the court’s motives were
politically-charged.
“This isn’t just an attack on Barcelona, it’s an attack on the
country of Catalonia because the club are the flagship of Catalanism,”
he was quoted as saying by AS.
