Senegalse striker Sadio Mane made history by scoring the fastest hat-trick in EPL scoring three times in less than three minutes for Southampton against Aston Villa.
Mane completed his hat-trick for Southampton in two minutes 56 seconds in an extraordinary opening to the game at St Mary’s.
Mane's record beat Liverpool's Legend Robbie Fowler’s 20-year-old record of four minutes and 33 seconds, set against Arsenal on 28 August 1994.
It also wiped Graham
Leggat out of the record books: the Scot used to have the record for
the quickest English top flight hat trick when he scored three in
exactly three minutes for Fulham against Ipswich in 1963.
Mane
fell short of recording the fastest hat-trick in Football League
history, however: that was scored in just 140 seconds by Bournemouth's
James Hayter against Wrexham in 2004. Amazingly, he'd come on as a sub
with six minutes left.
