Arsenal have become the first English Premier League side to reach six million followers on social networking platform Twitter.
The North London club become the third most followed sports team in the world, behind Spanish football giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
“We are very grateful to Arsenal's fans for helping us reach this milestone," said Chris Harris, managing editor (digital) of Arsenal Media Group.
“The club is fortunate to have so many passionate fans around the world and we always strive to produce content that is innovative, fun and engaging for our supporters.
“Over the past six months we have led successful campaigns around matchdays, using Twitter’s mobile video function to capture behind-the-scenes footage. We dedicated our home game against Swansea City to our followers, retweeting their live play-by-play commentary using the hashtag #AFCFansTakeover.
"Supporters also had the chance to send their messages to the squad ahead of the FA Cup final, a selection of which were printed onto T-shirts, signed by players and sent to fans.
“We will continue to work hard to produce fresh and original content with a pre-season tour to Singapore on the horizon and the new Premier League season fast approaching.”
