Los Angeles to be Named as U.S. Bid City for 2024 Olympics

Los Angeles has struck a deal with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) to be named as the country's bidding city for the 2024 Olympic Games, according to the Associated Press.

The decision is set to be approved the city council later today, with an official announcement expected soon after by USOC.

USOC has been in discussions with Los Angeles ever since Boston withdrew from the running in July. 

The International Olympic Committe (IOC) has set a deadline of 15th September for cities to submit bids to host the 2024 Games.

When confirmed, Los Angeles will be up against Paris, Hamburg, Rome and Budapest, with the host city to be selected in 2017.

Los Angeles has already hosted the Olympics twice before; in 1932 and 1984. The United States hasn't hosted the Olymics since Atlanta in 1996.
