Etienne Thobois, CEO of Paris 2024, announced during a media round table that the French capital's bid will have two presidents.
Three-time Olympic canoeing champion Tony Estanguet will join Bernard Lapasset as co-president of the Paris bid for the 2024 Olympics, putting a top athlete at the forefront of the campaign.
Also, following the submission of Paris’ official application letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the leaders of the city’s bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games have today set out further key elements of their campaign vision and concept.
Bernard Lapasset, President of Paris 2024, said:
“Paris has been working hard over the past two years to prepare its bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and we are delighted now to express key elements of our vision and concept following the submission of our application letter to the IOC. Paris 2024 would be the 100 year anniversary of the last time we hosted the Games so it is our promise to the Olympic Movement that a centenary Games here will be an outstanding celebration of Olympism and we would throw an amazing party to mark this momentous occasion.
“The Games in the birthplace of the founder of the modern Olympic Movement, Pierre de Coubertin, will additionally be a wonderful tribute to the powerful global legacy he helped to create. It will remind us of a great sporting past and the enduring nature of Olympic values as we look to the future embracing innovation and the ongoing importance of inspiration and education.”
