The American Olympic rights holder NBC have already
streamed 1.28 billion minutes from this year's Games, according to the
New York Times.
With the Games only just past the half way stage, they have already exceeded the number of minutes streamed in London 2012.
The best performing streams have been two from swimming,
the opening ceremony (which was not shown live), and the women’s
gymnastics all-around final (1.16 million) and team final (1.35
million).
NBC's Olympic TV coverage usually relies heavily on
showing events after they have finished, which frustrates fans. The
demand to see events unfold live has led to more and more people
accessing the streaming service.
