FIFA has revealed the new qualification allocation for the expanded 2026 World Cup.
Members of world football's governing body voted in January to expand international football's premier competition to 48 teams, up from the current total of 32.
Europe will still have the largest total, with 16 guaranteed slots in the new format. Africa will receive nine places, Asia will take eight, and South America will take 6. CONCACAF (North America, central America, and the Carribbean) will have six places, and Oceania will have one.
The final two places will be decided at a six-nation play-off, which will provisionally take place in November 2025. Every governing body except UEFA will be represented in the play-off competition, with the final spot coming from the confederation of the host country.
The new rules still need to be formally ratified by the FIFA Council, which is expected to happen on May 9
