Manchester
City repeats same feat against Arsenal as they did in the EFL Cup final
at Wembley with a 3-0 humbling of the
Gunners on Thursday night at the Emirates to open up a 16-point lead at the top
of the Premier League.
Four days after a 3-0 defeat to
City who won their first silverware of the Pep Guardiola era in the League Cup
final, Arsenal disintegrated once more as the visitors scored three times in
the opening 33 minutes in front of a sparse crowd at the Emirates.
Bernardo
Silva opened the scoring with a delightful curled effort to put Manchester City
in control of the tie, David Silva doubled Manchester City's advantage by finishing off a very
well worked team move in the box and Leroy Sane was left with an easy tap in for the third after another
supreme attack from the visiting side.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
missed a penalty early in the second half to kill off any chance of a
comeback but despite the defeat, Wenger -
whose position has plunged into further uncertainty following yesterday's loss
- chose to praise his players after yet another harrowing night at the Emirates
Stadium.
'It's tough but it's
explainable after what happened on Sunday and the consequences of the hype
about our performance on Sunday and it hits you but I think the players put a
pretty huge performance in today but unfortunately we had some weak defending,'
Wenger said.
However, City’s wait for a fifth
league title won’t last long with a maximum of just five more wins needed from
their remaining 10 games.
