China is set to be banned from international weightlifting competitions for one year, after three of its athletes were stripped of their 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medals for failing doping re-tests.
The International Olympic Committee has retrospectively disqualified three Chinese gold medal-winning weightlifters from Beijing 2008.
The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) stated in 2016 that any countries with three or more failed tests in the re-tests of Beijing 2008 and London 2012 would be banned for a year. The IWF has not confirmed the sanction yet.
Five other athletes have been retrospectively disqualified from the games
