NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has admitted that London's chances of receiving an NBA franchise have been complicated by the Brexit vote and uncertainty regarding the UK's future outside the European Union.
Discussions have been ongoing regarding a British-based participant in the NBA for some time, with former NBA commissioner Davis Stern initially floating the prospect a decade ago.
The Denver Nuggets and the Indiana Pacers will play at London's O2 Arena today, in the seventh regular NBA season fixture to take place in the English capital.
It is the first occasion that either team have played an NBA fixture overseas.
