Buhari Receives FIFA World Cup Trophy


The original World Cup trophy on Wednesday arrived Abuja, Nigeria's capital aboard a chartered flight, Nigeria's Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick and other officials were at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to receive the trophy.

The trophy, presently on a tour around the world of 91 cities, 51 countries across six continents before the opening ceremony, was presented to President Muhammad Buhari at a ceremony inside the Banquet Hall of the presidential villa, Abuja.

Former France International and world cup winner, Christian Karembeu, presented the trophy to the President on behalf of FIFA at the Banquet Hall with other FIFA delegation led by the President Coca Cola West Africa, Peter Njonjo

On Thursday, a whole-day consumer viewing of the trophy is planned for the Old Parade Ground in Abuja.The trophy and its accompanying team will then fly into Lagos, Nigeria's economic hub on Friday morning, to be received by the state governor Akinwunmi Ambode and NFF First Vice-President Seyi Akinwunmi.
