The
Italian champions are through to the quarter finals after scoring two
goals in three second-half minutes, Son Heung-min gave Tottenham the lead after
breaking the deadlock in the 39th minute to make it 3-2 on aggregate in the
second leg at Wembley.
Having earned
an unbelievable come back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw in the first
leg in Turin few weeks ago, Tottenham needed just a clean sheet would to go
through and add Juve to the scalps of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in what
would have been a great campaign.
Juventus showed class after the break and the
introduction of wing-backs Stephan Lichtsteiner and Kwadwo Asamoah swung the
momentum in their favour.
Gonzalo Higuain pulled one
back in the 64th minute and Paulo Dybala scored the deciding goal just three
minutes later to send Tottenham crashing.
Harry Kane hit the post with a minute to play, but
Champions League glory will have to wait for another year at least. Spurs
European run finally came to a halt with a 4-3 aggregate defeat.
Manchester City lost surprisingly at home for the
first time in 459 days but secured their Quarter-final tickets with a 5-2
aggregate win against Swiss champions Basel.
City won the
first leg 4-0 and unsurprisingly their manager Pep Guardiola chose to leave key
players on the bench with none of Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero or goalkeeper
Ederson featuring in the game.
City's last
home defeat came in December, 2016 against Chelsea.
