CAF Champions League: MFM Edge MC Alger

MFM FC left it late as Monsuru Bashiru restored a goal advantage with a screamer to give the Olukoya Boys a 2-1 win against MC Alger in the first leg of their CAF Champions League first round fixture at the Soccer Temple in Agege on Wednesday.

The host looked lively in the early minutes but couldn’t get a goal, Monsuru couldn’t hit the target after an attempt to chip the Alger shot stopper who later made a fine save from a shot attempt by chijoke, the visitors were very good on the break and it almost paid off but MFM goalkeeper Ospino Egbe pulled a fine save to keep his team in the game.

Play was stopped after Okorom Stanley got injured colliding dangerously with an opponent and appearing to have slumped with both team medics rushing to the pitch, though he wanted to continue the game but the medic team wouldn’t pass him fit to do so as he looks frustrated after being substituted few seconds after making his way back on the field of play, Tchato got booked minutes later.

MFM FC struggled to create clear cut chances but were handed a gift nine minutes before half time, Chijoke Akuneto converted from the spot after he was brought down inside the box. The second half din’t start well for the home team as visitors got a reward for their bright start, Abdul Aziz Amachi leveled the score line but Monsuru Bashiru screamer six minutes before final whistle gives MFM edge over the Algerians.

As for the rest of Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup, Enyimba went to neighboring country  Cotonou to beat Benin Republic’s Energie FC 2-0. Akwa United lost 1-0 away to Libya’s Al Ittihad and Plateau United lost 2-4 to Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia in Sousse earlier on Tuesday evening
