
Dani Alves has been ruled out of the World Cup for Brazil
with an anterior cruciate ligament injury that requires surgery, Brazilian
football federation has confirmed, after suffering a knee injury while playing
for Paris Saint-Germain on PSG's French
Cup final win this
week.
The injury will sideline him for at least three weeks.
Brazil’s first game in Russia will be on 17 June against Switzerland. Alves
played in the previous two World Cups and has 107 appearances for the team
since his 2006 debut and played in the 2010
and 2014 World Cups.
Brazil will face Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia in Group
E.
