UEFA, European soccer’s governing body, is set to
announce St Petersburg, Munich and London as the hosts for a trio of Champions
League finals, according to the Associated Press.
The news agency reports that Russian side Zenit St
Petersburg’s 68,000-capacity Gazprom Arena will host the final of European club
soccer’s premier competition in 2021, with the 75,000-seat Allianz Arena, home
to German champions Bayern Munich, staging the game in 2022.
The England national team’s Wembley Stadium, which
holds 90,000, will then host the 2023 Champions League final to mark the
centenary year of the original stadium first opening.
It was first revealed in February that either
Munich or St Petersburg would host the 2021 Champions League final, while it
was reported at the end of July that English soccer’s Football Association
(FA) was bidding to stage the showpiece in 2023.
UEFA is expected to confirm the hosts for the 2021
to 2023 editions of the Champions League final on 24th September at its
executive committee meeting in Ljubljana, Slovenia
