Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn will
succeed Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as CEO of the German soccer champions.
Rummenigge has been Bayern’s chairman of the board
since 2002 but announced at the start of 2019 that he will leave the role when
his contract expires on 31st December 2021.
Kahn, who made 781 appearances for the club and won
the Bundesliga eight times, has signed a five-year deal and will officially
join Bayern’s supervisory board on 1st January 2020, before taking over from Rummenigge
12 months later.
Kahn said: "Sporting and financial success,
solidarity with the fans, a responsible approach towards the club's history and
values – that is what FC Bayern stands for.
"I would like to further develop these
attributes in the future together with the staff, as well as my colleagues on
the executive board and the supervisory board."
The appointment is part of a wider transition for
the German soccer giants, with Uli Hoeneß to step down as President after
nearly ten years at the next annual general meeting, set for 15th November.
