Spanish Primera Liga rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will be hit with two transfer bans by FIFA for breaking rules on signing international youth players under 18, according to a report by Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.
The clubs are being sanctioned for 'irregularities in the signing of minors', which is the same offence that fellow Spanish giants Barcelona were guilty of, which resulted in them receiving a ban for 2015.
FIFA rules state that international transfers in Europe are only applicable for players over the age of 18 unless they meet one of three criteria; if their parents move to the country for non-footballing reasons, if they are from another nation within the European Union European Economic Area and aged between 16 and 18, or if they live within 100km of the club.
If the Madrid clubs are hit with a transfer ban it will be for this summer and January 2016, but they would still be able to sign players this summer if they were to lodge an appeal.
