The European Club Association has published the very first ECA Club
Management Guide in an attempt to share best practices of responsible
football business activities across the continent.
A number of high profile clubs in Europe have seen financial figures
fluctuate over the years and some have even flirted with administration,
most notably in England.
UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations were approved in 2012 in an
attempt to stem the tide of clubs spending beyond their means.
Now, the ECA has undertaken more than 150 interviews with CEOs,
directors and other top executives from around 100 clubs in Europe
putting together an array of case studies for a comprehensive collection
of guidelines on running successful club management.
In a statement, the ECA insisted the guide “does not attempt to
provide one single solution for successful club management, but offers
great insight into effective club management methods from clubs of
various sizes and countries in Europe”.
The 390 page guide contains chapters on operational, commercial, community and sporting activities.
But those interested in getting to grips with the best football
business practices from across the continent will have to pay €100 for
the privilege.
For those cautious businessmen, An Executive Summary of the Guide is available for download in different languages on the ECA Website.
