The International Olympic Committee (IOC) heads to Pyeongchang this week to inspect preparations for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
The IOC’s coordination commission, led by Gunilla Lindberg, will spend three days in South Korea once arriving on Tuesday.
Also attending will be the heads of international federations for ice hockey, biathlon, skiing, and other winter sports.
Officials from Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and
the Korean Olympic Committee will welcome the visitors from the IOC.
It’s the fifth visit of the commission, following the previous one in March.
Concerns over Pyeongchang 2018’s finances came under scrutiny earlier
this year when an apparent lack of enthusiasm from sponsors put
pressure on local government authorities to cover costs.
Add to that the continuing worry over the late delivery of some venues, which Lindberg has previously criticised.
However, in August, IOC president Thomas Bach announced he was
pleased with the great progress made by organisers after they held a
meeting together.
