Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy
is on the verge of agreeing a new three-and-a-half-year
contract with the current Premier League leaders. The Foxes will be delighted
their striker will snub offers from league rivals such as Chelsea and Man. City
The 29 year old England
striker has been holding negotiations with the club for weeks and has now come
to terms of signing an extended and much-improved deal that reflects his superb
form.
Vardy has scored 16
goals in the Premier League this season, scoring in 11 successive league games
to break a record previously held by Ruud van Nistelrooy as the Claudio Ranieri
side have risen to the top of the Premier League, where they currently hold a
three-point lead over second-placed Manchester City and Arsenal.
Vardy currently earns
£40,000 a week on a deal does not run out until June 2018 but the new terms
states a pay rise up to £70,000 a week represent a significant improvement in
salary with the former Fleetwood Town striker finding the back of the net 20
times in his last 34 Premier League appearances, helping Leicester to pull off
a great escape at the end of last term and driving them towards the most
unlikely title challenge this season.
