Launching the process for the 2026 FIFA World Cup was one of the
things Infantino promised to do during his first 90 days as FIFA
President.
The Swiss will like the bidding to start before FIFA reconvene for their next congress meeting in Mexico in May.
"It is fairly urgent," Infantino said.
"Definitely, I think we need to launch the bidding process in the next couple of months, probably before the congress in May."
Infantino also denied claims that he promised the United States that
they would host the 2026 World Cup to secure key votes in the election.
One of the 115 votes he secured in the second round of voting saw US
Soccer Federation head Sunil Gulati switch his vote to Infantino.
Asked if he had made promises to the U.S. regarding the World Cup, Infantino replied: “No, certainly not.
"I spoke with many delegates... trying to tell them that they should vote for football and for me."
